The Burlington is open!

Burlingtonopened_2 As all of you should know by now, The Burlington had its grand opening this past Saturday and it was insanity! The turn out was ridiculous and everyone had a blast thanks in part to the Prairie Cartel kicking out the jams all night long.  We are starting to get into the swing of things so check back here for the weekly DJ lineup, pics, long winded stories, MP3s you need and more.  For now check out some pics of The Burlington courtesy of Hamilton: The Burlington Opening Week.

More to come...

A little about The Burlington...

Logan Square seems like a cool place to tell people you live, but really, besides three good restaurants there isn't shit to do. Until now. On a semi-derelict but soon to be opulent (seriously, contact your agent now) stretch of Fullerton a new bar is opening. Most recently known as "Old Busch Light Sign," this new bar shall be called The Burlington. One day The Burlington will probably achieve ironic “Old Man Bar” status, but today it is a hungry up-and-comer. You know when you go to a bar and see old pictures on the walls and even though you are one third older than the people in the pictures, you realize you will never be that old or that cool? Ever? Well now you can! This is a rare opportunity to beat future generations to their ironic cool old man bar. Think about it, one day you can tell your kids, parole officer, or AA sponsor to fuck off, because that grime on the walls came from you. And because you are there first, there will be toilets that don't scatter clouds of weird flies every time something goes in them. And speaking of bathrooms, these babies will be equipped with boom boxes that play actual home made mix tapes from the 80's (recovered from garages, roller rink estate sales, and grave robbing).

However do not be fooled by the musical selections in the bathrooms, as there will also be a nightly line up of DJs spinning a soundtrack of Indie, Punk, Funk, Funky Punk, Punky Brewster, Brit, Mod, Hot Traxxx, Jamz, Jah, Beirdo, Minimal, Glitch, Bleepy-Beep, Disco, Hip Hop, Norwegian Metal, and Pontoon Rock.™ While it is an undeniable truth you will not hear better music anywhere in the Chicagoland area (except possibly the Road House in Schaumburg) The Burlington wants to get everyone involved and will therefore feature a bring your iPod night where everyone can get in on the fun. NOTE: This is also an anthropological study that will once and for all prove that while everyone thinks they are a DJ, few actually deliver!

With good jams, one must have the proper libations and The Burlington will not disappoint. Featuring a rotating cast of sweet delicious craft, domestic and imported beers, specialty cocktails (read shots of Makers Mark) and a rather impressive collection of American and French wines, The Burlington will do its best to make you lose all inhibitions so you can dance the night away. Oh, and of course there will be plentiful drink specials aimed at the underemployed and woefully lazy.

The Burlington shall be known as a place to converse and make friends, so TVs will be used quite sparingly. In fact they shall only be on for three reasons: Nights we dust off the VHS tapes and show music videos, cold blustery evenings when another viewing of Cannonball Run and/or Road House are in order and for all Cub Games. Don't start whining about how baseball isn't very Indie. Forget the bloated salaries and rampant steroid abuse; baseball's rules are arcane and impenetrable and the games go on forever. Just think of it as the sports equivalent of a Built To Spill or My Morning Jacket show.

Finally, it should also be noted that The Burlington was previously haunted by the ghost of La Donna, but nobody has seen the apparition since the new interior went up. No paranormal experts were willing to go on record on this particular ghost's ability to pass through fresh dry wall so nobody is promising anything spooky. However we have purchased a precautionary Ouija Board, Proton Pack and the ashes of the scary midget lady in Poltergeist and are keeping our fingers crossed for a spectral appearance opening night. With or without ghosts, The Burlington always promises good times.

Tomorrow's old man bar today. Make your mark.
